Have you noticed Googles shift from UK to US?
Posted on June 18th, 2009
One of the murmurs in the UK based SEO industry at the moment is tha sudden increase in US based sites ranking highly on Google UK. Blogs such as this ppc one, and the seoroundtable one are struggling to find causes for this shift.
Google have not released an official comment on this, but there are a growing number of examples where US sites are appearing on google.co.uk SERP’s, diluting the number of relevant results. Many bloggers have commented on this, with Manchester, New England appearing in search results for google.co.uk, and US SEO companies ranking in 10 out of the 20 top spots for SEO on Google UK. Has Googles Geo-targeting technology lost the plot?
These irrelevant search listings have also been felt by some of our clients, MRA Debt Help and Mike Robertson Associates Ltd. The financial sector in the UK used to have very few US based websites filter through into the search listings. Now they are inundated with US based mortgage companies and debt consolidators.
These innacurate results have lead to some users migrating to Bing, something that Microsoft will be jumping with joy over. After their huge media campaign at Bing’s release, to gain users at Google’s own fault would be a dream to Gates and Co.
